How to choose a bridal makeup artist in Jalandhar: 12 questions to ask before you book

A checklist for Punjabi brides: what to ask a makeup artist in Jalandhar about trials, products, timings, travel and pricing before you pay an advance.

Your makeup artist is the last person who touches your face before you walk out. Choosing well is less about the most followers and more about the right answers to a few direct questions. Here are the twelve we would want every bride in Jalandhar to ask — including of us.

1. “Is my date actually free?”

Start here. Ask for a written confirmation of the date and the start time once you pay the advance. Peak-season artists double up; make sure you are the only bride on that morning, or that the second bride has a different team.

2. “Will you do a trial, and is it included?”

A trial is where the look is designed, tested under a camera flash and written down. If the answer is “we don’t need one, we’ve done hundreds of brides,” keep looking. Ask who does the trial — it should be the same artist who will be with you on the day.

3. “HD or airbrush — and why for me?”

A good artist will ask about your skin, the season and the length of your day before answering. If the answer is one technique for everyone, that is a sales pitch, not a recommendation. Read our HD vs airbrush guide before the conversation.

4. “What exactly is included in the price?”

Get the list: base, eyes, lashes, hair, draping, jewellery setting, touch-up kit, an artist on standby. Hair and draping are the two things most often quoted separately. Ask for the quote in writing on WhatsApp.

5. “Who is actually coming on the day?”

Team size matters more than people think. One artist cannot do a bride, her mum and two sisters by 6 am. Ask how many people arrive, what each does, and whether the lead artist personally does the bride.

6. “What time will you arrive, and how long will I take?”

Hair, makeup and draping for a bride take around three hours. For a morning Anand Karaj the team should be with you before dawn. Ask how they build the timeline and whether they talk to your photographer.

7. “What products do you use?”

You are looking for professional, long-wear products and a sensible answer about your skin type. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, say so now — and ask them to patch-test at the trial.

8. “Can I see full-day photos, not just the first one?”

Everyone looks good at 8 am. Ask to see a bride at the doli or the reception. Real, unretouched phone photos from a family member are worth more than the photographer’s edited frames.

9. “Do you travel, and what does it cost?”

If the wedding is in Phagwara, Ludhiana or Chandigarh and the artist is in Jalandhar, ask for the travel charge as a separate line and whether an overnight stay is needed for early ceremonies.

10. “What happens if you fall ill?”

Nobody likes this question; good studios have an answer. A team-based studio has a trained second artist who already knows your written look. A solo artist should be able to name their backup.

11. “What is the advance and the cancellation policy?”

Expect a fixed advance to hold the date, the balance before the wedding, and a non-refundable advance close to the date. That is normal. What is not normal is no written terms at all.

12. “Can I speak to a recent bride?”

Reviews are easy to write; references are not. An artist who is proud of their work will happily connect you with a bride from last month.

The one thing not to do

Do not book on the basis of a single stunning Instagram reel. Reels are edited, filtered and lit. Book on the basis of a trial, a written quote and a clear plan for your morning. That is what a wedding day actually needs.

If you would like to put these questions to us, we are on WhatsApp seven days a week — and yes, we are happy to answer number 12.

Questions brides ask about this

How many makeup artists should I meet before booking?

Two or three is plenty. Shortlist from Instagram and Google, message each with your date and events, and do a trial only with the one whose work and communication you trust.

Is a cheaper artist a bad idea?

Not automatically. Price should match experience, products and team size. A low price with no trial, no written quote and a solo artist for a 5 am Anand Karaj is the risky combination.

When should I book my bridal makeup artist?

As soon as the date is fixed. Peak season in Punjab (November–February, April–May) fills 4–8 months out for the artists you actually want.
