Bridal skin prep: the 8-week routine we give every Punjab bride
A realistic, week-by-week skin prep plan for Punjabi brides — from the first facial to wedding-morning glow, without harsh last-minute treatments.

Every bride asks us the same question at the trial: “What should I be doing for my skin before the wedding?” The honest answer is that there’s no last-minute miracle — but there is a simple routine that, followed consistently from about 8 weeks out, makes a real difference to how your skin takes makeup on the day. Here’s the plan we actually give brides getting ready across Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Amritsar.
8 weeks out: build the basics, don’t chase trends
This is the stage to get boring and consistent, not experimental. A simple routine — gentle cleanser, a hydrating moisturiser, sunscreen every single day, and nothing else new — does more for your skin in two months than any one expensive product. Punjab’s weather swings matter here: if your wedding falls in the cooler months, dryness and flaking around the nose and jawline are the main enemy; if it’s warmer, oil control and sun exposure from outdoor functions like roka or sagan photoshoots are what you’re managing.
Sunscreen deserves its own mention. Brides spend far more time outdoors in the lead-up to a wedding than they expect — venue visits, shopping trips, outdoor mehndi setups, pre-wedding shoots — and unmanaged sun exposure shows up as uneven tone under makeup later. A daily SPF, reapplied if you’re out for long stretches, is the single highest-value habit in this whole routine.
If you want a facial in this window, this is the time for anything slightly stronger — a deep-cleanse, a brightening facial, or treatment for specific concerns like pigmentation. Give your skin time to react and settle before you move closer to the wedding.
6 weeks out: sort out hair removal and hydration rhythm
Thread, wax or get any laser sessions done with enough buffer that redness or ingrown hairs have time to calm down — not in the final week. This is also a good time to settle on a hydration rhythm that works for your skin type: a hydrating serum under moisturiser for dry or combination skin, a lighter gel-based one if you’re oily. Don’t switch skincare brands wholesale this close to the date; introduce one new product at a time and watch how your skin responds for at least a week before adding another.
Sleep and water intake sound basic, but they show up on the face faster than almost anything else — puffiness, dullness and dark circles are often sleep-and-stress related rather than a “skin” problem at all. If your 6-week mark overlaps with sangeet or jaggo rehearsals and late nights, try to protect at least a few full nights of sleep each week.
4 weeks out: lock in your makeup trial
This is the right window for your bridal makeup trial — close enough to the wedding that your skin tone and texture are close to where they’ll be on the day, far enough out that if something needs adjusting (base shade, finish, longevity for a long Anand Karaj and reception day) there’s time to plan around it. Bring whatever outfit colour or dupatta you’ll wear so lip and eye tones can be matched properly, and mention if you’re set on HD or airbrush so the trial reflects the actual finish.
If your skin tends to react to stress or new environments, this is also when we flag it — better to know at the trial than find out on the wedding morning.
2 weeks out: taper down, don’t ramp up
Stop any peels, strong actives, or new facials entirely from here. The goal for the last two weeks is calm, hydrated, unremarkable skin — nothing to fight against when makeup goes on. Keep your basic routine going, keep sunscreen on, and resist the urge to try a friend’s “miracle” product someone recommended at the last sangeet. If you get a final light facial, keep it hydrating and gentle, roughly 10–14 days before the big day.
This is also when ubtan, maiyan and vatna ceremonies usually happen for many Punjabi brides — turmeric and besan-based rituals that genuinely help skin glow, but can stain or dry the skin if not managed well. We’ve written a full guide on getting the glow from maiyan and vatna without the yellow stains if those ceremonies are coming up for you.
Wedding week: protect what you’ve built
In the final week, it’s about protecting the work already done rather than adding anything new. Keep hydrating, keep sunscreen on for every outdoor function — haldi, mehndi, and any outdoor photos — and try to get sleep around the ceremonies even when the schedule is packed. Avoid last-minute threading or waxing within 2–3 days of the wedding; same-day redness is the one thing worth avoiding entirely.
For winter weddings specifically, Punjab’s dry air and fog mean an extra layer of hydration is often needed right up to the morning of — we go into more detail on that in our winter wedding skin prep guide.
The real takeaway
None of this requires expensive products or dramatic treatments. Consistency, sun protection, enough sleep, and timing your facials and hair removal so your skin has recovered before the wedding — that’s the whole plan. Combined with a proper trial and a makeup artist who knows how to work with your actual skin on the day, it’s enough to get a genuinely glowing, photograph-ready look from the first roka function right through to doli.

Questions brides ask about this
Can I start skin prep later than 8 weeks if my wedding is close?
Yes. Even 3–4 weeks of consistent hydration, sleep and sun protection makes a visible difference. The main thing to avoid in a short window is trying anything new or aggressive — stick to gentle, proven basics so your skin stays calm for makeup day.
Should I get a facial right before the wedding?
Have your last deep facial or peel 10–14 days before the wedding, not the day before. Skin needs time to settle after extractions or active treatments — doing it too close to the date risks redness, breakouts or sensitivity on camera.
Does skin prep matter if I'm doing HD or airbrush makeup?
It matters more, not less. Both finishes sit directly on the skin's texture — HD in daylight and video, airbrush under studio light. Smooth, well-hydrated skin is what makes either technique look seamless instead of cakey by the end of a long function day.
